Y Felin Rhyd Hir is a 17th century Water mill of historical importance, lovingly restored and converted as a luxury Holiday rental. Located on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales near to the village of Efailnewydd a short distance from Llanbedrog and Nefyn. This unique property with working overshot waterwheel, is available for week and weekend breaks in comfortable private surroundings.

Staying at the Mill

The Water Mill has three contemporary well-appointed bedrooms sleeping up to 6 people. Two doubles and two singles.

Large country style Kitchen and warm inviting living room with smart TV, internet, and wood burning stove. All with tantalising views of the Mill machinery.

Outside consists of balcony with seating and private Swiss style hot tub for 6 people. The Water Mill is also dog friendly.

Carol and Aide have created a special bolthole with every need catered to. The attention to detail is second to none, from the welcome pack on arrival with freshly baked scones down to the little touches throughout the cottage which make it a true home from home. They are always looking for ways to improve the experience for their guests and have recently introduced a cold plunge barrel to accompany the hot tub experience along with padel board to take along to the beach. The location is prefect for a quick drive to Pwhelli, Abersoch and Aberdaron with truly gorgeous beaches for relaxing lazy days. We will be back without hesitation! Thanks Carole & Aide !!!

Having the owners just next door is very useful for anything that crops up - they are really friendly, give you lots of space and are there if you need anything. Location is excellent - easily connect with all beaches and towns in the area around 5 to 30 mins away. Super holiday and would certainly come again - thank you!

The setting is gorgeous: quiet and rural, surrounded by lovely gardens, and the hot tub was the perfect way to unwind in the evenings after a day of exploring. The location is brilliant as a base for the area, we used it to explore the Llyn Peninsula, Anglesey, and Snowdonia, and everything felt within easy reach. There's parking on site plus an EV charger, which was really handy. The beds were comfy and we slept really well throughout our stay. It's also dog friendly, which made a big difference for us. For food, the local fish and chips were great, and Ty Cynan farm down the road has a brilliant bar with amazing pizza (well worth a visit). Altogether a fantastic place to stay, and we'd happily come back. Highly recommended!

Hosts, Carol and Adrian made us very welcome. The mill is beautifully decorated, very comfy and homely. Beautiful gardens, water pond/pool. Loved meeting the lambs and baby frogs. The Watermill lived up to all our expectations and more. Perfectly positioned to get out and about and visit all the local attractions.  The beaches are stunning and we found some lovely places to eat. The hosts Carol and Adrian were on hand should we need anything and were very warm and welcoming on our arrival. Six of us stayed and a secure exercise area was provided for our two small dogs. What an amazing and special place this is. A beautifully renovated water wheel sets the house apart from any other, with workings visible from within the building. A stunning setting with quiet country walks and wildlife in abundance. A decked viewing point with comfortable seating and summer house along a private walk, is a wonderful place to relax and observe Welsh nature in all its glory. Back home and an outside hot tub is a relaxing place to see the stars.  Our hosts, Carol and Adrian, have gone ‘above and beyond ‘  to make our stay special. What an amazing experience.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We’ve had a brilliant stay at the Watermill. The setting is exactly what you hope for when you come to this part of North Wales. It feels properly tucked away and peaceful, but still close enough to so many deserted stunning beaches and places like Snowden and Abersoch or Anglesey to get out and explore without any hassle. The building itself is full of character, and it’s clear a lot of care has gone into maintaining it. Everything was spotlessly clean, spacious, and well thought out, which made it easy to settle in straight away. We couldn’t have wanted for more. What really stood out for us was how well it worked for our family with two teenagers and two dogs. There’s enough space for everyone to spread out without feeling on top of each other, and the outdoor areas are ideal for letting the dogs relax while the teenagers switch off and actually enjoy being outside for once. After a day out, being able to come back and unwind in the hot tub which was lit for us every day was a big win, and the whole place has that calm, quiet feel that makes it easy to properly switch off. The hosts were friendly and helpful without being intrusive, and you get the sense they genuinely care about people having a good stay. If you’re looking for a peaceful base with plenty of space, character, and a setting that helps everyone slow down a bit, it’s a great choice. We’ll 100% be coming back.

A gem of a place with so much history, very grateful for the in depth tour and insight into the water wheel workings and its history. The kids learned a lot 😊 thank you Adrian. The site is so well maintained and Carol, Adrian always on hand if anything was needed. Location is great for visiting local beaches, coves and towns, and the cold water barrel was a nice touch for Lauren who likes a cold dip! I settled for the hot tub only as not quite as brave haha. Thank you both for a warm, welcoming, cosy stay in your beautiful cottage.

The History of Felin Rhyd Hir

Y Felin Rhyd Hir formally Melin Bodfel on the river Afon Rhyd Hir, was the centre of village life for as long as can be remembered. The current Mill is dated the late 17th Century when the production of flour was the cornerstone of community life. The site however is believed to have been the centre of milling for Efailnewydd and Bodfel for at least the past 600 hundreds of years if not longer.
